You may often hear “breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” and you may be wondering if that is actually true. The truth is there are varying opinions.
In high school, the thought of eating anything before 11 a.m. made us feel sick. Looking back, there’s no way we would not be able to eat anything all morning!
We don’t necessarily believe that eating breakfast is some “magic” pill that will make your body a fat burning machine and allow you to lose 20 pounds in a week. However, starting your day off with a good combination of carbs and protein is never a bad idea. This is even more important for people who are trying to get back on track. If you get yourself in the mindset of fueling your body from the first meal you have, you already have done that for yourself, and therefore, more likely to continue to make better choices throughout the day.
Thinking by skipping breakfast, you’ll lose weight, is definitely not the way to go! Likely, what will happen, is that by lunch time you will be so hungry, you will want to eat the first thing that comes to mind (which, we all know will be something you may regret later). Also, if you workout in the morning, or even later in the day, your body is craving protein and carbs to fuel your muscles and help them recover.
